“This large painting is a life-size self-portrait in a derelict boat.
The work depicts loss of home in general and my own desperate search for a new home in the past.
The structure of the boat is constructed from cardboard boxes (all my belongings were packed in those and most homeless people use them to create shelters), covered in sand, feathers, ropes, acrylic paint and my own hair that I shaved off my head during that year.
Although this painting only portrays a brief period in my life, being adrift is sadly the fate of many, may they be refugees or people rejected from their families or the society or political structure they live in. Being rejected for religious, political or sexual orientation often results in a life-long journey with unclear destination.”
